Young Adults
The young adult ministry at Monte Vista Baptist Church seeks to bring together college, twenty and thirty-somethings to be an active and faithful part of the church.
We strive to combine faith and action in this ministry. It is our desire that meetings not just take place in the walls of the church, but that conversations take place at dinner out on the town, over coffee or while playing any number of sports from disc golf to racquetball.
Opportunities for growth exist in relationship with each other and with God, in spiritual maturity and connection with the community.
Core Values Core values for the young adult ministry are the same as the church. Emphasis is intentionally given to each of five primary purposes of the church identified as worship, spiritual growth, fellowship, missions, and evangelism.
Weekly Activities
- Sunday Morning Bible Study, 9:30 a.m. Young adults meet on 2nd floor, room 214.
- Young adults are encouraged to worship each week through the church worship services at 10:30 am in the sanctuary.
- Small group home Bible studies are encouraged and available at various times .
Service Opportunities
- MVYA help in other ministries of the church such as student and children's ministries.
- Monte Vista church provides young adults the opportunity to go to Perry County, AL. to participate in construction projects and/or backyard Bible clubs through the Sowing Seeds of Hope organization in Alabama. This church wide commitment is completely supported by the church body with many members serving in hands-on ministry.
- We are also seeking other opportunities in the Blount County area.
Trips
- Spiritual Weekend Retreat to the Smoky Mountains are sometimes offered for the Young Adults. During this weekend away (at an affordable price), young adults play, sing, study, and grow together in their understanding of Christ and his kingdom. Often, the tough questions are asked and discussed throughout the experience, so young adults can have a place to explore some of the hardest theological issues.
- Young Adults may choose to participate in the Perry County, Ala. church-wide mission trip. This experience is available for one week each year in June. This inter-generational mission trip is often the highlight of the year for many of the participants.
- The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship sponsors a collegiate weekend conference, Antiphony, during the New Year holiday time every three years. The next one is 2009. Young adults may choose to participate in this conference.
