The Maryville College Concert Choir and Off Kilter will join voices for “A Scots American Musical Journey" scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening, April 30 at Monte Vista Baptist Church in Maryville.

During the April 30th event, the fifty voice Concert Choir, under the direction of Stacey Wilner and assistant Jennifer Olander, will perform musical selections it is preparing for an upcoming Concert Tour to Scotland. “A Scotland Medley,” arranged by Dr. James Laster, an alumnus of the College and professor emeritus of Shenandoah Conservatory, will be a centerpiece of the choir’s performances while on tour.

Laster is an acclaimed composer and considered an authority on choral music for women’s voices. His recent composition for the Concert Choir includes traditional Scottish folksongs such as “Comin’ Through the Rye,” “Charlie is My Darling,” “Scotland the Brave” and “Auld Lang Syne.”

In addition to Scottish Music, the Concert Choir will be performing sacred music selections such as "Ubi Caritas" by Durufle and several American music selections such as "At the River" by Aaron Copland and the spiritual "Ain't Got Time to Die" by Hall Joh son.

The small vocal ensemble Off Kilter will do a little storytelling for each of its selections, which will include David Overton’s arrangement of “Loch Lomond”, "Scarborough Fair" by Adrianno Secco and several popular American classics, including a King Singer’s arrangement of Randy Newman’s “Short People.”
